IRDS Studio is the artistic practice of Ingrid Račková and David Suchopárek, exploring the relationship between light, geometry, and perception through contemporary glass. Their sculptural compositions and glass paintings investigate transparency, reflection, and optical depth, revealing the transformative potential of light within the material.

IRDS Studio, founded by Ingrid Račková and David Suchopárek, explores the expressive possibilities of glass through geometry, light, and spatial perception. Their distinct yet complementary artistic approaches bring together sculptural precision, optical complexity, and an interest in the relationship between material form and intangible experience.

Račková's glass paintings explore internal structures, optical depth, and the tension between controlled geometry and spontaneous expression. Incorporating air voids and layered compositions, her works respond to changes in light and the movement of the viewer, creating a space for reflection and introspection.

Suchopárek works with cut, cold-bonded, and molten optical glass, constructing geometric compositions that draw on elementary symbols and relationships found in nature and human experience. Through precise arrangements of form and volume, his sculptures explore the interaction of transparency, light, and spatial complexity.

Across their practices, glass becomes more than a physical medium. Light activates its structures, reveals shifting relationships between surfaces and forms, and introduces new layers of meaning that unfold through the viewer's perception.

Artist Statement

Abstract purple and silver geometric glass sculpture with sharp faceted forms on a gray studio floor

To us, glass is a medium through which we work with light — the active agent that objectifies it, permeates it, brightens it, multiplies it, models it, reveals its subtle transformations and intensity, and allows for a new way of seeing things.

In its natural rhythm of the day, light enlivens the visual language of abstract geometry, plays out internal stories, and sets in motion the precision of lines and shapes. Through layering, it moves, melts away, and comes together again into new layers of meaning.

We work with this changing presence, which captures something that is far from us, which transcends the sensory world, but that is at the same time close, as we ourselves are a part of it.
