Curatorial Profile
Jo Andersson approaches glass as a material with its own agency, allowing its physical behaviour to inform the development of each work. Working with hand-blown glass, shaped freehand without moulds, she responds intuitively to heat, gravity and movement rather than treating form as a predetermined outcome.
Her practice moves between sculpture and functional design, challenging the distinction between objects intended for use and those conceived for contemplation. Exaggerated proportions, saturated colour and fluid silhouettes give her works an immediate physical presence, while their interaction with light introduces an element of continual transformation.
Central to Andersson’s practice is an openness to unpredictability. Individual variations emerge through the making process, giving each object its own identity. The resulting works reveal a dialogue between artistic intention and material spontaneity, where the inherent qualities of glass become central to the sculptural expression.

Artist Statement
My practice explores the intersection of sculpture, light and atmosphere through the expressive possibilities of hand-blown glass. I am drawn to the physicality and unpredictability of molten glass, allowing heat, gravity and movement to become active elements in the creative process.
Rather than imposing a predetermined form, I work intuitively and respond to the material as it changes. Each piece develops through this interaction, resulting in a unique object shaped by movement, colour and the inherent qualities of glass.
My work exists between sculpture and design, exploring how form, light and material can create objects with a distinct physical presence.
