Petr Stacho’s sculptures often begin with a form that feels immediately clear: a circle, an arc or a sharply rising point. Closer attention reveals a more complex interior. Polished surfaces meet rough textures, openings interrupt the geometry, and colour changes as light passes through the glass.

In the works selected here, these contrasts suggest natural processes without depicting them directly. A surface may recall fractured ice, moving water or the structure of a mineral. Artist Statement

Petr Stacho’s practice draws on a range of glassmaking techniques. In his work with hot glass, lines, fragments and sheets of coloured glass are shaped and applied through heat. Surfaces that may appear painted are instead built through his work with the material.

Glassmaking brings together physical effort, craftsmanship and artistic thought. Stacho’s geometric forms provide a structure, while the behaviour of glass introduces an element that cannot be fully predicted. The resulting tension between intention and chance is central to his work.

His sculptures often evoke processes found in nature: melting ice, freezing liquid or the formation of minerals. These associations emerge through the interplay of form, texture, colour and light.
