Ursula-Maren Fitz is a German visual artist working across painting and sculpture, with a particular focus on glass. Combining glass with bronze, iron, barbed wire, and stone, she creates minimalist objects and installations that explore transience, the vulnerability of the human soul, and its need for protection.
Curatorial Profile
Ursula-Maren Fitz works across painting and sculpture, with glass occupying a central place in her practice. Working independently since 1990, she allows the idea to determine the material, exploring human vulnerability, transience, and the need for protection.
Her minimalist glass objects and installations often bring glass into dialogue with iron, barbed wire, bronze, or stone. These combinations create a tension between delicacy and strength, giving physical form to questions about the vulnerability of the human soul and the protection it requires.
Fitz works with lost-wax casting and kiln-forming, as well as glass shaped in collaboration with glassmakers. Many pieces are patiently ground and polished—a process she describes as quiet and almost meditative. Her restrained forms draw attention to colour, surface, and the relationships between materials.
Her work has received awards in numerous competitions, is represented internationally by galleries, and is held in public and private collections.

Artist Statement
I have been working as a freelance visual artist since 1990. I work with paint and canvas, clay, bronze, paper …; the material follows the idea. Glass has come to play a special role in my work over many years.
Inner attitudes are a recurring theme in my work, sometimes obvious, sometimes subtly woven in. In my work, I explore, among other things, transience, the journey into the afterlife, and the vulnerability of the human soul and its need for protection.
About My Work with Glass
In my studio, I create minimalist glass objects and installations. Some are crafted using the lost-wax casting process or by melting glass into moulds, while others are shaped freely in collaboration with glassmakers at a glassworks. These pieces are frequently combined with iron, barbed wire, bronze, or stone, and are often patiently ground and polished—a quiet, almost meditative process.
I am actively involved in a number of associations and committees on a voluntary basis, including serving as chair of GLASHEIMAT BAYERN e.V. My work has received awards in numerous competitions, is represented internationally by galleries, and can be found in both public and private collections.
