Vlastislav Janáček is a Czech glass artist whose practice explores the expressive possibilities of optical glass. Combining technical precision with a personal artistic vision, he creates sculptural works that bring together form, colour and light.

Curatorial Profile

Abstract blue and yellow geometric glass sculpture with a pointed conical shape

Vlastislav Janáček approaches glass as both a sculptural medium and a means of personal expression. His work reflects a deep fascination with the material itself, exploring its inner qualities and the relationship between transparency, colour and form.

A graduate of the School of Arts and Design in Kamenický Šenov, where he studied under Vladimír Klein, Janáček has worked as an independent glass artist since 1999. His practice centres on optical glass, using lamination to combine layers of clear and coloured material, followed by precise cutting and polishing.

His sculptures emerge from an intuitive engagement with the world around him, where human relationships, nature and music become sources of artistic expression.

Artist Statement

Abstract geometric glass sculpture with a bright red sphere, white faceted shapes, and blue and black reflective forms on a dark background

It is very simple to talk about my work — I just love glass.

I am not really looking for the quantitative effects that the material offers. What I am trying to discover is the inner origin and peculiar world of glass.

What about my themes? They come spontaneously. They are everywhere around us — relationships between people, nature, music... One has only to look and listen.

I will be truly happy if I manage to touch somebody with my work and communicate my feelings and perceptions to others through my glass objects.
